Body temperature, respirations, and pulse rate are frequently monitored in newborns. The results are compared to those taken after birth. Unless a medical condition warrants it, blood pressure is not taken in newborns.

- A normal pulse rate is 120 to 160 beats per minute.
- Normal respiration is 30 to 60 breaths per minute.
