Insomnia and Hormones

Insomnia can be related to various hormones and their levels. Low melatonin levels and have been found in some people who suffer from chronic insomnia. Other people who deal with chronic insomnia have been found to have high levels of stress hormones, such as cortisol. In women, short-term insomnia is sometimes related to fluctuations or changes in progesterone levels associated with menstrual cycles or pregnancy.
