Hospice and Stages of Dying

The hospice care of patient in the final stages of life focuses in addressing the issues and concerns of both the patient and family. Pain and symptom control is important to maintaining quality of life to the end. While the exact time nor the exact manner in which a person will die can be predicted, many experience similar symptoms. These symptoms include changes in breathing patterns, a decreased appetite, excessive sleepiness, emotional changes, and urinary and bowel changes.
