Flu Tests Miss Swine Flu Cases

Research has indicated the rapid flu test is not accurate in detecting swine flu cases. The highly accurate test is the real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR), which is slower. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests treating the flu-like symptoms right away. Of the rapid flu tests, the QuickVue detected 69 percent of H1N1 cases, Directigen found 49 percent, and BinaxNow caught only 40 percent.
