Obesity is associated with 112,000 deaths each year in the U.S. People who are overweight have a higher likelihood of contracting heart disease, diabetes and some cancers. One study, by Forbes, states they collected data on body mass index (BMI), physical inactivity and TV watching habits for the country's 50 largest metropolitan statistical areas to compile their list of the 20 most sedentary cities in the U.S.
