Nobel Prize winning author Ernest Hemingway suffered from bipolar disorder. He was treated with electroshock therapy which the author said disrupted his memory. Hemingway committed suicide at the age of 61. His family attributes his bouts with depression with a heriditary disease known as haemochromatosis (bronze diabetes).
