A duodenal tissue biopsy is performed to check for bacteria that may lead to certain illnesses and conditions. A sample is taken from the small intestine and sent to a laboratory where it is placed in a culture media to check if certain organisms are present and growing. An abnormal result may be indicative of organisms such as salmonella and entamoeba.
