Diabetes and Electric Blankets
If you have diabetes it is recommended that you avoid using electric blankets. The reason for this is that diabetics commonly develop a condition known as diabetic neuropathy. Because of this, you may not realize if the electric blanket is getting too hot, which may result in burns to your skin.
- It is suggested that if you wish to use an electric blanket that you turn on the blanket to warm your bed and then turn it off before getting into bed.
- Neuropathy is a condition common in diabetics and results in loss of feeling in their legs, arms, and feet.
- Burns in a diabetic can lead to an infection and even amputation of the affected area.
