Depression and COPD

Depression is common in COPD patients who suffer from frequent exacerbation episodes. Research shows that depression symptoms increased during times of exacerbation in COPD patients already diagnosed with depression. Studies also show that depression is more common in people with COPD than it is in other chronic illnesses.

Fast Facts:

  • Depressive disorders are found in over 60% of military veterans with COPD.
  • COPD patients with depression have shorter survival times.
