A clitorectomy (sometimes called a clitoridectomy or clitoral amputation) is a surgical procedure in which all or part of the clitoris and sometimes the labia are removed. It is a form of female circumcision.
- In some cultures, clitorectomy is performed to attempt to keep a female from enjoying sexual intercouse, thereby reducing the likelihood that she will be unfaithful to her husband.
- Scarring and nerve damage can occur after clitorectomy.
- May also be performed as a part of a female-to-male sex reassignment surgery.
